IOP team’s research activities focus on the use of mathematics to study problems from the fields of image processing, optimization, probability and statistics. A special theme is data analysis in high dimension (signals and images) organized in the form of vectors or matrices of large size. Current research on the design of mathematical approaches for data processing in high dimension typically rely on methodologies combining different themes of applied mathematics. For example, we can mention variational approaches and regularization methods, non-differentiable convex optimization for large problems, nonparametric statistics and probabilities on manifolds, optimal transport, harmonic analysis for sparse methods, EDP and stochastic algorithms, as well as concentration inequalities and stochastic calculus. The IOP team includes researchers and academics experts in these topics in order to promote interactions between these different fields of applied mathematics.
The considered applications are image editing (inpainting, color processing), medical imaging (segmentation, real time registration), aerial imagery (restauration, registration, classification), CT and MRI (reconstruction with sparse data), seismographie (multi-modal data), bioinformatics (analysis of genomic or proteomic data), neuroscience, cognitive science, human factors (processing of EEG, EMG, ECG), processing of radar signals.
Scientific activities of the IOP team is also organized around a weekly seminar which takes place at the IMB on Thursday from 11am to 12pm, as well as around a working group that may be common with other teams and research laboratories of the University of Bordeaux.
